Buzzard release!
Dear readers.
So the time has come to release the two buzzards and the Lander falcon that we have rehabilitated. We first had to help Joseph to ring them for research purposes and then we could let them go.
So firstly we measured the wing, head and the beak and wrote down the data on an information sheet.
After this we took a blood sample and attached the ring. We also had to place it inside a bag with a string to weigh it. We were told we can determine the age or stage in life by looking at the feathers in the wing. The primary flight feathers are lost one by one once a year so you can see in what life stage the bird is. We collected all the data and let them go in the caravan park.
So the release went well, they flew off into the wind to migrate in winter back to Asia to the stepper mountains. If caught again the number on the ring can be checked and the information can be updated.
Until next time..
