To move an animal that can hurt you very severely is no joke! Codee is a male white lion, 8 months of age and he has a bit of a deformity ito his brain function. This means we need to be very careful and we can not just grab him on the scruff and place him in the moving enclosure.
We had to first catch him in a separate catching cage, then let the others out that were caught in there with him and then lure him into the transporting enclosure. He put up a fight as he did not understand the situation but as soon as we had him in the transporter he was quiet and had left us a very smelly surprize.
Lex did not like him at first obviously as she had never seen him before like she did the other cubs. He was very submissive and she did try to protect us from him by hissing at him and being mean to him. She did not bite or hurt him when the came in contact with each other and she relaxed a lot towards him when we left the cage. The have been cuddling ever since if we are not in sight and they are fed separately as well. The feeding at first was a bit of a problem as Lex did not want to eat and bother Codee whilst he was eating, but now they eat perfectly and they don't bother each other.
We will be keeping an eye on them during night shift and during the day so we can report on their progress. Lex will be going into hat soon and that means she will turn on him and us when trying to work with her.
