This weekend is my second weekend working as we had to conduct a switch to balance out weekend staff. It is a long weekend due to public holidays which means we are going to work very hard and be very busy.
The weekend started off with the arrival of a rooi hartebeest that had died at the vet and they donated it to us to use as meat for the carnivores at the wlc. The boys had to slaughter it and remove the intestines so we could take the carcas and place it in the freezer until needed.
We also had to feed the babies and let guests play with them due to an accident that had occurred during the lion interaction. The woman had been nipped by Codee and so she got out of the enclosure because of the blood. We then let her play with the serval kittens to make up the experience that she has paid for. This has been done before as well because one of the gusts were to young to go in with the lions but had already paid and was very upset.
Codee will be moved to Lex very soon because he has become a danger risk to guests when we invite them to interact with the cubs. Because Lex is older then him he will be submissive towards her and soften up towards us because Lex protects us from him.
When working night shift I saw Lex in the tree in her enclosure and had a bit of a fright. She had climbed it and looked around her without a noise or crying. She climbed it and got down by herself as well but we need to check that it is not too close to the fence because she can jump over if the urge strikes.
When feeding the babies we must make sure they do not aspirate and that they burp when finished drinking, then stimulation is needed to help them urinate.
